Our Routines

At Precious Steps Pre-school we pride ourselves in promoting children’s independence and learning through play.  The children self register when entering the pre-school, they find their photo with their name on and put it on the alphabet board.  We have free flow access to our very secure outside area from the onset of the children’s arrival however; if the weather is inclement or we have a high percentage of children with sniffles then we would access the outside area for shorter periods of time.

9.30 – 10.30
The snack bar opens, we seat eight children initially and then children access the snack bar throughout this hour period.  We provide water, milk, various fruit and carbohydrates.

We encourage children to take part in our twice daily language groups; this is not just for children with speech and language problems as it promotes listening and attention skills which are one of the vital prime areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.  We also have adult guided activities; these activities are based on the gaps in the children’s learning and development.

Children help to tidy mid morning and mid afternoon, this encourages personal, social, and emotional development skills and also mathematical sorting skills, we then have story, singing/circle time.  We do two separate story times for older and younger children when required.

12.00 – 1.00
Lunch club opens and runs the same as the snack bar, we promote healthy eating so ask that children’s lunch boxes are as healthy as they will eat.  We take into account children that are younger and are slow eaters; we will sit these children first.
